DIY: Pumpkin Poppy Seed Sugar Scrub
Whether or not you are over it ("it" being pumpkin everything come Fall), there is no denying the potent benefits that pumpkin has to offer for hair and skin! We use pumpkin all year long - in our recipes and hair and skin care products because of it's rich vitamins and nutrients essential for healthy hair and skin. Beyond the benefits of pumpkin seed oil, we wanted to bring our squash obsession to a new level. And so, this DIY Pumpkin Poppy Sugar Scrub recipe was born.
This exfoliating body scrub is made with regular sugar as opposed to salt, because sugar has finer granules for a gentler scrub. A spoonful of poppy seeds add an extra boost of buffing power as well as reparative properties found naturally in poppy seed oil. For rougher patches of skin (dry heels, knees, elbows) replace sugar with salt. For more delicate and sensitive skin, and for face, we recommend using caster sugar which has even smaller granules than regular sugar (and dissolves more quickly in water).
PUMPKIN PUREE (1.5 Tablespoon)
POPPY SEEDS (1 Teaspoon)
SUGAR (1.5 Cups)
OLIVE OIL (1.5 Tablespoon)
TEA TREE ESSENTIAL OIL (1-2 drops)
SWEET ORANGE ESSENTIAL OIL (1-2 drops)
GROUND NUTMEG (1/2 Teaspoon)
Poppy seeds are what make this pumpkin scrub truly unique! To bring out more of the natural oils in the poppy seeds (and rich nutty fragrance that we love) you can also toast these for a few minutes before adding to your scrub.
Blend ingredients together until you've made a consistent paste and store it an air tight drawer. To elongate the shelf life, store this in your fridge between uses. On rough, dry skin this fall, this scrub feels and smells divine!
Replace tea tree and sweet orange essential oils with your favorites. We sprinkled in a dash of nutmeg for a warm fall 'pumpkin spice' scent that will either satisfy your pumpkin craving - or leave you craving even more.
This pumpkin poppy body scrub is just as good looking as it is an effective gentile exfoliant for body. With the added charm of a mason jar, these also make for amazing DIY fall gifts.
