Second of all, January 1st marks more than just a shopping trip for a new calendar - it's the opportunity for a fresh start with all of your best intentions to make 2018 your best year yet. The problem is: New Year's resolutions are usually set with idealistic standards rather than realistic ones, and are often abandoned early on. Exercising for two hours every day may seem like a good idea December 31st until Game of Thrones is back on and the "maybe tomorrows" set in.

If you're nervous 2018 will be another year of broken resolution, have no fear! Here are 4 New Year's resolutions you can actually stick to:

1. Be More Cruelty Free

Setting a New Year's Resolution to cut out all animal products cold-tofurkey on January 1st could be setting yourself up for a rough transition. Going completely vegan can take time, but the new year marks a new opportunity to bring positivity into 2018 - for both you and animals! Set a New Year's resolution to be more conscious of which beauty products in your basket test on animals or were made with animal byproducts (all Espinache products are cruelty free!). Try new vegan products and ingredient alternatives like almond milk or cashew cheese that you may not have incorporated into your diet before. You may just find a new favorite!

2. Cleanse Your Kitchen

We’ve all heard our friends raving about the new fad diet they’ve made a resolution to stick to but come February they’ve already abandoned. Diets can be tough, but there are still ways to become more conscious of your consumption outside of counting calories! Take a day to cleanse your kitchen, including your fridge and pantry, of all junk foods and things reminiscent of bad habits past - it’s a new year, baby! Make sure to still leave a little something for yourself when your sweet tooth hits. Take your time planning what you want to fill your kitchen with, and enjoy your time shopping for your new kitchen staples. This is a perfect opportunity to try meal planning if you haven’t already! Meal planning can save you from those endless nights in front of the fridge wondering if you should just order takeout.

3. Focus on Pampering

Looking and feeling your best go hand in hand. Make 2018 the year you invest in your well-being by addressing and indulging in your skincare and hair care needs. A fresh new year is the perfect time to nail a fitting skincare routine. You can focus on all of the things 2018 is ready to throw at you with the confidence that you are looking and feeling fabulous while remaining fearless. Glowing, healthy skin will help usher in all of the life-changes you plan to take head-on. If you plan to get that new haircut to really separate your 2017 from your promising 2018 - make sure those luscious locks are being well-cared for!

4. Make Time For Yourself

Let’s face it - 2018 is going to be a busy year. With everything going on in the world and with everything going on in your world, you deserve some me time. More than deserve - you need it! Make a New Years Resolution to set time aside for yourself every day. These can absolutely be different activities like going to see that movie that caught your eye by yourself or sitting down to a nice meal on your own. Going to a concert alone is seriously underrated. Life is busy, though, and little you-moments can be made by taking 15 minutes to meditate, rocking out to your favorite song in your car before work, or opting for a bubble bath instead of a shower. Making time for yourself will help lead you to gaining self-confidence, increasing positivity, and having a happy 2018.


The new year is the perfect time to mentally cleanse and prepare yourself for all of the changes life has in store for you. You don't need unrealistic resolutions that are too hard to stick to in order to thrive. Little changes go a long way, and this is the best time to be honest with yourself - you'll be the confident babe you envision in no time. Happy New Year!



We use pumpkin all year long - in our recipes and hair and skin care products because of it's rich vitamins and nutrients essential for healthy hair and skin. Beyond the benefits of pumpkin seed oil, we wanted to bring our squash obsession to a new level. And so, this DIY Pumpkin Poppy Sugar Scrub recipe was born. This exfoliating body scrub is made with sugar as opposed to salt, because sugar has finer granules for a gentler scrub. A spoonful of poppy seeds add an extra boost of buffing power as well as reparative properties found naturally in poppy seed oil.
